Why are Supreme Court Decisions Important?

Importance Of Supreme Court Decision

Supreme Court decisions are important to criminal cases because the Supreme Court makes important decisions on rules of law. Cases that make it to the Supreme Court involve some allegation of misconduct or violation of the rules of law.

For example, a case may make it to the Supreme Court when it is alleged that a judge acted improperly or made a decision that was not based on the rules of law. The decision by Supreme Courts is final and future cases must abide by those decisions. For example, a future case in which the judge faces the same circumstances would include a decision based upon the previous Supreme Court decision.

Supreme Court decisions can greatly influence the outcome in future cases because the decisions must be adhered to.
